Explosion on Starship flight: Hundreds of debris fall to Earth

Elon Muks’ space company SpaceX conducted the eighth test flight of its massive Starship rocket on March 6. Launched from the Starbase facility in Texas, the first stage of the gigantic rocket, the Super Heavy, successfully returned and was caught by giant arms called “chopsticks”. But the second stage, the Starship upper module, failed again, as in the previous test flight, and exploded after separation. Hundreds of pieces of debris fell to Earth.

The Super Heavy booster has successfully returned and made a third successful landing on SpaceX’s famous “chopstick” capture system. This is considered an important step for SpaceX to achieve its goal of developing a fully reusable rocket.
